From Federico Tessore – Investor Passport (Argentina) –
On Friday people dropped all investments. Stocks, bonds, gold, oil, did not save anything or anyone. Argentina’s Merval index fell nearly 3%. The S&P 500 index US fell 2.45%.
The Wall Street Journal explains it this way:
Investors who had bet on low volatility in the markets were shaken last Friday when the price of stocks, bonds, oil and gold collapsed amid concerns about the willingness and ability of central banks to brace the markets.
Summarizing the above, what happened was that investors became worried about what the central banks of the world would do. The fear is starting to raise rates. If this happens, there is more incentive to sell risky investments, especially smaller stocks and emerging markets. So on Friday, many people sold and this sank the global market.
If you have shares in your portfolio, certainly you lost money on Friday. How much did you lose?
