What to Tell Your Kids Before They Buy A House

‘How do you think it went?’

This was my daughter’s first question backstage after our Q&A session at the Great Repression conference in Port Douglas.

The session was deliberately unscripted, as I wanted Grace’s responses to be genuine…not canned commentary.

On that level, I felt the session went well. Grace is an open book.

We are our harshest critics, so in some cases we felt more detailed answers could have been provided. However, hindsight is a wonderful thing, and you often roleplay coming up with the right words to say after an event.

Speaking of roleplay, one question went along these lines: ‘Our daughter is considering buying a home with her partner and we are not too keen on this. How would you roleplay this situation with your family?’

We have not experienced this request…yet. Therefore, my response lacked the practical experience to do this question justice.

Since the conference, I’ve given this matter a great deal of thought, because, in all likelihood, we may be faced with a similar request.

I say in all likelihood because that’s what the data is indicating.
