Assembly elections are currently on in Uttar Pradesh, the state which sends the maximum number of MPs to the Lok Sabha and has the biggest legislative assembly as well.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken at several rallies in the state.

In a rally held on February 8, 2017, Modi said:“Today women in Uttar Pradesh do not dare to venture out in the open after sunset.

Such is the situation, that girls are apprehensive of going to school because of molesters and eve teasers.”

“This evil has been sheltered by the ruling party leaders in the State. It is nursing the criminals. The law and order has failed as powerful people with protection of the ruling party are controlling police in their areas,”he added.

What Modi was basically saying is that Samajwadi Party which currently is in power in the state, shelters criminals.

Many criminals are a part of political parties and at the same time they are elected representatives of people in state assemblies as well as the Lok Sabha.
