Profitable Indian Supermarket Chain Goes Public Tomorrow

This happened a month ago when I was in Pondicherry (a former French colony) with my wife. My wife needed a new swimsuit.

So, we went to one of the main market areas in the city and checked out some retailers and shopping centers. Some garment shops didn’t have swimsuits.

Some didn’t have the specific design that my wife wanted. Some disappointed us with poor quality. Then, at last, we found a shop that had our favourite swimsuit brand – Speedo.

I like Speedo for two reasons. One, it offers high quality products. Two, one of our favourite and most successful Hidden Treasure recommendations – Page Industries – is also the exclusive licensee of Speedo International Ltd. for the manufacture, marketing and distribution of the Speedo brand in India.

Now, we were happy to have finally found what we wanted. But we weren’t done yet.

We couldn’t find the right size. The store manager said that he didn’t expect new stock for at least two weeks.

When I was back in my guesthouse, it struck me…Why not try Amazon? And guess what, I found the same Speedo swimsuit that my wife had liked, and it was available in her correct size.

And it was available at the same price I had seen in the retail store. I chose the swimsuit, added it to my online cart, and waited for a final go-ahead from my wife.

A day later, when I logged in again into my Amazon account to complete the purchase, there was a big surprise message in store for me. The message read that the price of the product I had saved in the cart had fallen by 50%. I was thrilled, but I was in doubt too. This was just too good to be true.
