Some questions are very hard to answer. Take a look at one of the questions I got earlier this week: “Are you writing about life as it applies to finances, or about finances with implications for how to live your life?”
It reminds me of the hilarious and ingenious joke Pedro Cerize told me when we were discussing a company going through some tough times: “The secret is to find out if it’s vanilla cream ice cream with a little piece of crap on top or if it’s a piece of crap with a little topping of vanilla.”
Going back to the original question, it would be easier to answer (another impossible question) – what’s going to happen to the dollar – than to answer that one.
I honestly don’t know. I don’t really think about it that way, maybe because I don’t see it as two different things. For me, there is only one way to think about it, only one way to be, and it applies to every aspect of your life – personal, professional and financial. If you don’t live and act in accordance to your personal beliefs, then you are doomed to an eternal battle with yourself. And that’s a battle you can’t win.
When I talk about the relentless pursuit of asymmetrical returns, I am talking about more than just what goes in your purse or your portfolio. It’s a philosophy for everything and for always. It’s the philosophy behind buying half of the Antagonista website, starting up a business in Portugal, and starting Jolivi as “Empiricus Health”.
